February 7, 2017 Update: Unfortunately, with a tie breaking vote by Pence, the Senate confirmed DeVos.

Thank you to all public school teachers for what you do. You are invaluable to our families and society.

February 7, 2017: The Senate is demonstrating parliamentary disobedience in order to prevent Betsy DeVos’s nomination. DeVos has no experience in a public school classroom and favors privatizing education. This would divert public tax payers’ dollars to the private sector, debilitating public schools. She is not focusing on approaches that work to bring public schools valuable resources that they require. Her track record in Detroit is destructive.

Here in the North Country, we rely upon public education for our children. They provide our children with academic lessons, sports, and music training. Our public school teachers are hard working dedicated individuals, and they need our support in order to do their job teaching and caring for our children.

Quality public education is a fundamental tool for economic development in rural America.

Please call Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand to support their opposition to DeVos.
